Siargao With Kids: Travel Guide

I travelled around the Siargao with my two daughters and found it to be one of the most family-friendly destinations in the Philippines. Between calm lagoons, natural swimming spots, tuk-tuk adventures and fantastic cafés, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Here are some of the things that made Siargao such a great place for kids...

Tiny tropical island with a few boats nearby and bright blue water

Island Hopping

One of the best family days we had in Siargao was the island-hopping tour to Guyam Island, Naked Island and Daku Island.

The beaches are beautiful with soft white sand, calm, shallow water and plenty of space for the kids to run around and play. If you're travelling with young children, this is an easy day out that everyone can enjoy.

The clear, flat water also made it a great spot for beginner snorkellers.

If you're visiting Siargao with kids, I'd definitely recommend adding an island-hopping day to your itinerary.

Surfing Lessons for Every Age

Whether your children are complete beginners or already love the ocean, Siargao is one of the best places to try surfing.

There are plenty of beginner-friendly beaches and surf schools offering lessons for kids and adults.

Even if your kids aren't into surfing, just watching everyone surfing from the boardwalk at Cloud 9 is fun. And there's plenty of places to swim

Sugba Lagoon

Without question, this was one of our favourite family days.

The calm turquoise water was perfect for swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding, while the jumping platform kept the girls entertained for ages.

Maasin River

This was my favourite place. Kayaking through the peaceful palm-lined river was so relaxing.

At the end of the river there is a little swimming hole and a cafe if you want to sped more time there.

It's an easy activity that everyone can enjoy.

Travel Tip: Buy the drone package - the views are spectacular from above the coconut trees.

The water is crystal clear, Kids can climb around the rocks. It's a fantastic family stop.

Just remember to check the tides before you go.

A quick stop, but definitely worth it.

Cloud 9 Beach

Cloud 9 is a great place to spend a few relaxing hours, even if you're not planning to surf.

There are plenty of beachfront cafés, massage tents and a laid-back atmosphere. You'll often find women offering beautiful hair braiding and fun henna tattoos, which my girls loved.

There are also plenty of coconut trees that the kids can climb on too.

Great Food for Everyone

Siargao has excellent cafés.

There are healthy smoothie bowls, pancakes, pizzas, burgers, pasta and plenty of kid-friendly meals.

Even picky eaters shouldn't have too much trouble finding something they enjoy.

Is Siargao Affordable?

Compared to many tropical islands, we found Siargao to be excellent value.

Accommodation ranges from backpacker hostels to beautiful family villas, while eating out is affordable and Tuk-Tuk and moped hire costs are low.

You can easily travel on a budget or splash out on luxury accommodation.

How Many Days Do You Need?

We'd recommend at least 4–5 days.

That gives you enough time to explore the island, enjoy a few relaxing afternoons, take a land tour and visit Sugba Lagoon without feeling rushed.
