3 Days in Moalboal: The Perfect Itinerary

Moalboal is one of the most popular destinations in Cebu and for good reason. Between the famous sardine run, sea turtles, beautiful beaches and stunning waterfalls, there's plenty to keep you busy for a few days.
Most travellers stay in Panagsama Beach, where you'll find the snorkelling, restaurants, cafes and accommodation.

Day 1: Sardines, Turtles & Sunset Views
Morning
Moalboal Sardine Run & Turtle Snorkelling
Start early when the water is generally calmer and there are fewer people in the water.
We found the best light for photos and videos was in the morning and around lunchtime, although visibility can vary depending on conditions.
If you're planning to snorkel with the sardines, check out my complete guide to the Moalboal Sardine Run for everything you need to know before you go.
Travel tip: The sardines and turtles are located directly offshore from Panagsama Beach, so you don't need to join a tour. Simply rent snorkel gear and swim out from the shore.
Lunch
Grab lunch at one of Moalboal's great cafes. We loved My Greek Taverna.
Evening
Head to Panagsama Beach for one of Moalboal's famous sunsets. There are several beach bars and tables set out on the sand, making it the perfect spot to enjoy sunset drinks before dinner. Enjoy a meal at the Pasta Bar - its amazing!

Day 2: Chasing Waterfalls & Hiking Osmena Peak
Full Day
Join a tour to:
Kawasan Falls
Kanoloab Falls
Cambois Falls
Osmena Peak
This is a long day tour. We set off at around 8am and got back at around 6/7pm. But we loved every minute! You are in the car a lot, but it gives you a great chance to see the mountain area and villages of that side of Cebu.
What to bring:
Snacks - especially if travelling with kids
Cash - each waterfall has a small environmental fee
Walking shoes - for hiking Osmena Peak at the end of the day
Flip Flops - for waterfalls
Swimmers - we swam at each of the 4 falls
Towel/Sarong
Camera
Waterproof camera pouch
We booked our tour at a local agency when we were in Panagsama. For 5 people it was 5000 pesos for the driver and 7 seater car for the whole day. You can decide on when to stop for lunch/toilet stops etc
If you're travelling with older kids or adventurous teens, canyoneering at Kawasan Falls is one of the most popular activities in Cebu.
There are other day trips to:
Inambakan Falls
Mantayupan Falls
If we had more time we would have definitly done another waterfall day. It is a long day, but the waterfalls are stunning. The water is an incredible shade of blue and, apart from Kawasan Falls, most were surprisingly quiet.

Day 3: White Beach & One Last Snorkel
Morning
Breakfast
There's loads of cafes to choose from. We loved Uhaw - great coffees and breaky & Westcoast Cafe.
White Beach
Spend the morning swimming and relaxing on one of the nicest beaches near Moalboal.
The water is calm, clear and perfect for families. An easy 15-20 minute Tuk Tuk ride from Panagsama Beach. Just note, if you are travelling with little ones, there is not much shade at Whites Beach.
Lunch
Beachside lunch (very limited options at White Beach) or back in town.
Afternoon
One final snorkel with the sardines and turtles.
Midday and afternoon can often be busier than early morning, but the sardines & turtles are still easy to spot.
Evening
Finish your trip with dinner and sunset drinks overlooking the ocean. Or try out Hungry Monkeys - great food. Another dinner option, head to El Mercado, 10 mins walk from the beach. There is dozens of eateries and a big dining area. Its a great option if you're all in the mood for something different to eat and cant decide.

Where to Stay in Moalboal
I definitely recommend staying near Panagsama Beach rather than in Moalboal town. This puts you within walking distance of the sardine run, restaurants, cafes and most tour operators. Most accommodation in Panagsama Beach ranges from budget hostels and guesthouses through to beachfront resorts, so there's something to suit most budgets.

Is 3 Days in Moalboal Enough?
Three days gives you enough time to:
✅ Swim with the sardines
✅ Snorkel with sea turtles
✅ Visit Kawasan Falls
✅ Relax at White Beach
✅ Enjoy Moalboal's cafes and restaurants
If you're planning a trip to Cebu, Moalboal is well worth adding to your itinerary. Between the sardine run, sea turtles, waterfalls and relaxed beach-town atmosphere, it ended up being one of our favourite stops in the Philippines. If you're short on time, 2 days is possible. But 3 days allows a much more relaxed pace.
